Heather Switzer to participate in GLC Speaker Series

VTIPG research associate, Heather Switzer will give a talk as part of the GLC Speaker Series on April 17th. Heather’s discussion, entitled Finding Energy in the Field: Reflections on a Qualitative Project in Africa, will focus on finding energy, recognizing inspiration, and following your instincts in cross cultural qualitative/immersive field work. Possible discussion points include: (1) preparing interview instruments before you travel to the distant place, and how to think about revising these instruments in the field; (2) reading theory in a sheet metal house in the Kenyan bush; (3) working with untrained research assistants who also happen to be the subject of the research; (4) forging ahead underfunded; and (5) disconnects once you get back to the U.S.
