Dr. Elaine Enarson: A Genered Perspective on Natural Disasters
Dr. Elaine Enarson, sociologist, scholar and consultant to the United Nations will visit the Virginia Tech campus on March 3rd to speak on “Building Safer Communities: Gender and Disaster Risk Reduction.” Dr. Enarson will also work with a group of interdisciplinary faculty to plan for an international research symposium on the topic of gender and disaster in the coming year. This event is co-sponsored by WMASLS Scholarship Fund, Women in International Development/Office of International Research, Education, and Development, Women’s Studies, Women & Gender Studies, Virginia Tech Institute for Policy and Governance, Dept. of Interdisciplinary Studies, Virginia Tech Women’s Center, Dept. of Sociology, and the Center for Peace and Violence Prevention.
