Heather Switzer to join VTIPG Civil Society Group

Heather Switzer, a fourth year PGG doctoral candidate and VTIPG research associate has just returned from several months of field work in Kenya where she lived with the Maasai and with whom she is conducting her research. Her work in the areas of girls' education and the effects of development imperatives on local gender relations and social categories is supported by an AAUW Fellowship. Heather’s research interests include development in Sub-Saharan Africa, girl’s issues in developing contexts/girlhood studies, gender and education, African feminist/gender theory, Kenya, qualitative methodologies. She will be working with VTIPG’s Civil Society and Governance group and Africa and peace building initiatives.
